About the Monolith
The Monolith is the heaviest thing we make. A thick slab top on block legs of the same stock, with the leg width carried straight up into the top so the whole table reads as one piece of timber that has been cut away rather than assembled.
Hard maple is the wood it was drawn for and the one it opens in: pale enough that the mass does not turn the room dark, and close-grained enough that a surface this large stays flat — the property that made it the standard for butcher blocks and bowling lanes. It is also the least figured board we mill, which on a table of this size is the point: figure at this scale would be noise. Choose another wood on this page and the same rule holds; walnut and white oak carry the mass with more color, and the price follows the pick.

About this dining table
Expect maple to yellow gently over the years, more so in sunlight. Nothing stops that and no finish prevents it; it is what the wood does, and the warmth it arrives at is generally considered an improvement on the raw white. Walnut moves the other way, lightening a shade as it settles.
Three lengths — 84, 96 and 114 inches — at 42 inches wide and 30 high, the top 2¼ inches thick, standing on one solid block at each end. Every length is priced on this page in the wood you choose; any other size is quoted. Built in our Farmingdale, New York shop, hand-finished in food-safe zero-VOC hardwax oil, and delivered crated with free lift-gate freight in the continental US.
