Hidden Floating Bracket System

Our floating shelves mount on the Hovr bracket system — a two-part interlock machined from aircraft-grade 6063-T6 aluminum. One part anchors to the wall; its mate is a channel we rout into the back of the shelf, in-house, as part of the build. The shelf slides on and locks. Nothing shows.

We prep every shelf for its bracket on our machines, so on-site the install is two steps: mount the wall bracket level, then slide the shelf on. Brackets anchor into wood studs, drywall, metal studs, brick, and masonry.

How the shelf floats

Routed in-house

The shelf-side channel isn’t an accessory screwed on later — it’s machined into the shelf on our floor, aligned to the grain and the finish. The system arrives as one resolved piece.

Classic or Slim, shop-matched

Two versions of the same idea. Slim suits shelves roughly 1 1/4–1 7/8 in thick; Classic is maximum strength, load-tested to 300 lb at an 8 in projection into two studs. We pick per shelf, from thickness, depth, and load.

Everything in the crate

Wall bracket, hardware, and the manufacturer’s install guide ship with the shelf. Install is two steps: mount the bracket level, then slide the shelf on.

The standard bracket vs. Hovr

Most floating hardware is two prongs pressed into holes in the shelf. This is why we standardized on something else.

Questions

Questions

Common questions about the concealed Hovr bracket system on our floating shelves.

Which bracket does my shelf get?
The shop chooses per shelf. Slim carries shelves roughly 1 1/4 to 1 7/8 inches thick; Classic is the maximum-strength option, load-tested to 300 lb at an 8-inch projection when anchored into two studs. Either way the choice is engineering, not an upcharge.
Is anything visible after install?
No. The wall bracket disappears inside the shelf — the channel we rout into the back swallows it completely. The shelf reads as solid wood floating off the wall.
What arrives with the shelf?
The wall bracket, its hardware, and the manufacturer’s install guide ship in the crate. The shelf-side channel is already routed, so installation is mounting the wall bracket level and sliding the shelf on.
Can I use my own hardware instead?
Yes — order the shelf unmounted, or tell us what your hardware needs and the shop preps for it. The concealed Hovr system is the default because it’s what we’d put in our own homes.
What walls can it mount to?
Wood studs, drywall with the right anchors, metal/aluminum studs, brick, and masonry are all supported. Hovr recommends anchoring into as many studs as possible; the Specialty Installs videos above cover each wall type.
How much weight will it hold?
The Classic bracket is load-tested to 300 lb at an 8-inch projection into two studs. Real-world capacity depends on your wall and anchors, so mount into at least two studs and keep the heaviest items toward the wall side of deep shelves.
Do you take on custom or one-off projects?
Yes. Beyond the online builder, we take on custom sizes, oversized pieces, matched commercial runs, and bespoke solid-hardwood millwork. Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll quote it by hand, usually within one business day. Start a custom project ›
