What Custom Hardwood Actually Costs

No quotes-only gatekeeping: the Builder shows your exact price instantly, at any size, before you give us so much as an email address. Prices scale with the amount of wood in your piece (length × width × thickness) plus one fabrication rate that covers milling, glue-up, CNC flattening, hand sanding, and a 100% VOC-free finish. Freight with lift-gate delivery is included in the continental US. Current lead time: 3–4 weeks.

Typical Finished Prices (per square foot)

Real finished prices at a standard 1.5″ thickness — fabrication, VOC-free finish, and freight all included. Thicker pieces cost proportionally more, thinner less; the range spans straight-edge to live-edge cuts. The Builder always shows your exact number.

Questions

Pricing Questions

How is the price of a custom hardwood top calculated?
Price scales with the amount of solid wood in your piece — length × width × thickness — at a per-species rate that already includes milling, glue-up, CNC flattening, hand sanding, and a 100% VOC-free finish. Freight with lift-gate delivery is included in the continental US, so the Builder price is the delivered price.
How much does a custom walnut countertop cost?
A typical 96″ × 25″ × 1.5″ solid walnut kitchen countertop runs about $1,500.00, fabrication, finish, and freight included. That works out to the walnut range in the table above — and the Builder prices your exact size instantly.
What does live edge cost compared to a straight edge?
Live edge carries a premium over a straight-edge top in the same species, reflecting slab selection and lower yield — it lands at the upper end of each range in the table above. The Builder shows the exact live edge price for your dimensions the moment you toggle it.
Are there hidden fees or shipping charges?
No. Freight shipping with lift-gate delivery is included in the continental US, and the Builder price is the checkout price. Optional add-ons (sink cutouts, steel C-channels, floating bracket systems, miter cuts) are itemized before you pay.
Do very large pieces cost more per board foot?
Yes — oversize tiers apply to the wood price for spans over 8 feet long (rising at 10, 12, 14, and 16 feet) or over 4 feet wide (rising at 6 feet), reflecting premium-length lumber sourcing and handling. The Builder shows the tier the moment you cross it; building a long run as two or more seamed pieces avoids the surcharge entirely.
Do you offer trade or volume pricing?
Yes. Contractors, designers, and commercial builders get tiered trade discounts applied automatically at checkout. Apply on the Trade page — approval usually takes one business day.
Do you take on custom or one-off projects?
Yes. Beyond the online builder, we take on custom sizes, oversized pieces, matched commercial runs, and bespoke solid-hardwood millwork. Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll quote it by hand, usually within one business day. Start a custom project ›
