Solid Hardwood Fronts for IKEA Sektion
Keep the frames, replace the fronts. Our cabinet doors and drawer fronts are cut from solid hardwood to the SEKTION sizes, bored for the Utrusta hinges you already own, and hung in an afternoon.
Slab, one-piece shaker or a textured face, in sixteen woods and every color each one offers, every front in the order from one bundle of boards. Price the list live in the Builder, or send us your Kitchen Planner list and we build it for you.
How It Works
Pick the sizes
Choose Cabinet Doors in the Builder and the SEKTION door and drawer-front sizes are there as presets: 15 × 30 and 18 × 30 base doors, 15 × 5 and 30 × 10 drawer fronts, 15 × 40 wall doors, 15 × 80 pantry doors and the rest. Every front is still cut to the number you type, so measure one existing front and adjust if your installer trimmed it.
Choose wood, style and finish
Hinge boring for Utrusta
Choose IKEA Utrusta under hinge boring and we bore the 35 mm cups at that spacing on every door in the list, so the hinges clip on and the door hangs on the frame you have. Drawer fronts come undrilled for the Maximera rails, which fasten from inside the drawer.
Hang them
Doors arrive boxed by run with a spec sheet that says which front hangs where. Clip the hinges on, set the reveals with the three hinge adjustments, and the kitchen is solid hardwood from the counter down.
The Sizes We Cut for SEKTION
Base and wall doors
Base doors 12, 15, 18 and 24 in wide by 30 in tall; wall doors 15 and 18 in wide by 15, 20, 30 and 40 in tall, and the horizontal 24, 30 and 36 in wide doors at 15 and 20 in. These are the nominal SEKTION sizes; the Builder lets you edit any of them to the eighth of an inch.
Drawer fronts
Fronts 15, 18, 24, 30 and 36 in wide at 5, 10 and 15 in tall, with the grain run horizontal and, if you choose, continuous down the stack so the figure reads through the reveals. A drawer stack is one run in the Builder and is cut in sequence from one board.
Tall doors
Pantry and oven-cabinet doors at 15, 18 and 24 in wide by 50 and 80 in tall. Over 10 in wide we recommend the 7/8 in thickness, which stays flat on a tall door without a width cap; 3/4 in is the standard under it.
Thickness and the hinge
SEKTION fronts are 3/4 in thick and the Utrusta cup is bored to suit; our 3/4 in door hangs exactly as the original did, and the 7/8 in door we recommend for wide fronts takes the same cup with the extra eighth behind it. Tell us the hinge if yours is not Utrusta and we bore to it.
Why Solid Hardwood Here
Through and through
A slab front is one glued-up panel of solid boards and a shaker front is routed from one, so the edge you see when the door is open, the hinge cup and the back are the same wood as the face. Nothing to peel, chip or swell at a seam, and a scratch can be oiled out rather than lived with.
Matched to the rest of the room
Every front in an order is cut from one bundle of boards in hanging order, and if you already have a Hardtwood countertop, table or floating shelves, give the Builder the order number and we match the wood and the color. The island, the shelves and the doors from one shop.
Priced live, or from your plans
The Builder prices your door list as you type it, in any wood, with the ship window shown before you add it to your project. Or pick a wood and a style, upload your Kitchen Planner item list, and we build the door list for you and send it back as a quote within one business day, at the same prices.
