Wood Countertop Buying FAQ

The questions we answer most before a countertop order — sizing, sinks, lifespan, and which wood to choose.

How much do wood countertops cost?
Most of our tops land between $70 and $115 per finished square foot delivered — fabrication, food-safe zero-VOC finish, and freight included. Species drives the range; live edge and extra thickness add to it. Live per-species ranges are on our Pricing page, and the Builder prices your exact size instantly.
What is the best wood for kitchen countertops?
White oak and maple are the hardest wearing; walnut is the most requested for its color and grain and is plenty durable for daily kitchen use. Cherry deepens beautifully with age. Every species we mill is compared by hardness, color, and grain in the species guide.
Can wood countertops be used around a sink?
Yes. We CNC-cut the sink opening before finishing and seal every exposed edge with the same spill-resistant, 100% VOC-free hardwax oil as the surface, so water can’t wick into the cutout. Wipe up standing water rather than leaving it overnight and a wood sink run holds up for decades — undermount, drop-in, and farmhouse styles all supported.
How long do wood countertops last?
Generations, literally — because solid hardwood is the only countertop material that renews instead of replacing. Scratches, stains, and wear sand out, and the top refinishes to new condition. A quartz or laminate top that chips or wears is done; a solid wood top is just due for an afternoon of care.
Do you build kitchen island tops?
Constantly — the solid wood island top over a quartz or stone perimeter is the most popular kitchen we build for. Islands are where wood’s warmth matters most, and the Builder prices any island size in seconds, with steel C-channel reinforcement available for wide spans.
Are your countertops solid wood or butcher block?
Both, your choice. The standard build is wide-stave face grain — full-width boards arranged for continuous, flowing grain, never veneer. Prefer true butcher block? Choose Edge or End Grain construction in the Builder and it prices live. Our butcher block vs. solid wood guide covers the difference.
Do you take on custom or one-off projects?
