Rustic White Oak Extension Dining Table & Floating Shelves

A rustic knotty white oak dining table for a family home in New Hyde Park, on Long Island: eight feet for every day, twelve with the two extension leaves in, so a table for eight seats twelve at the holidays. The top is wide-plank white oak with its knots left in and filled flush with black epoxy, on four square posts that run straight up through the top and show their end grain at the corners — the construction that became our Balkan dining table.

On the wall behind it, two 42-inch floating shelves in the same white oak, cut from the same run of boards so the color and the knots match the table. Solid through, no visible brackets.

Finished in hardwax oil, delivered and installed by us.
