Fumed White Oak Tesseract Dining Table

Share
Dining TablesWhite Oak

A long dining table in solid white oak for a house on the North Shore, and the table our Tesseract is named for. The top is one solid slab, unbroken across its width, and it sits on two upright frames that cross straight through one another rather than standing apart — so the base reads as a single figure rather than four legs.

The oak was fumed and finished in Rubio Monocoat charcoal, which draws the grey-brown out of the wood and settles charcoal into the open pores. The table reads dark without losing the figure, and the knots we left in still show. Built in our Farmingdale shop over a week in May, delivered and installed by us.

This is the Tesseract v1.0. The design has since been redrawn as the Tesseract v2.0, below: the top is split in two by a reveal running down its length, and the frames overlap one another instead of crossing, so the top appears to float clear of the base.
