FAQ
Wood Shelves Frequently Asked Questions
What is the lead time for custom shelves?
Our typical lead time is 1–3 weeks depending on size, species, and current production volume. Each shelf is custom-built, finished, and inspected before shipping. Larger commercial orders may require slightly more time.
What depth shelves do I need for kitchens, offices, or décor?
- Kitchen use: 10–12 inches
- Office/books: 10–12 inches
- Decorative shelving: 6–8 inches
- Bathroom shelving: 5–7 inches
We can build any custom depth your project requires.
Do your shelves come with mounting hardware?
Shelves are sold individually, but you can add optional hidden floating brackets during checkout. When brackets are purchased, we pre-bore and prep the shelf in-house so installation is fast and seamless.
Can I order shelves in exact custom dimensions?
Yes. Every shelf is made to order, so you can choose exact length, depth, and thickness down to fractional inches. We precision-mill each shelf for a perfect fit.
How much weight can your solid wood shelves hold?
Our solid wood shelves can support up to 300 lbs when paired with our heavy-duty hidden brackets and properly installed into studs. This capacity makes them suitable for dishes, books, appliances, décor, and even commercial applications that require maximum load strength.
Do you pre-install hidden floating shelf brackets?
Yes. If you purchase our bracket upgrade, we drill and recess the back of the shelf so the hardware is fully concealed. You only mount the bracket to the wall — the shelf slides on securely.
Are these shelves suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial spaces?
Absolutely. Our solid wood shelves are finished with 100% VOC-free hardwax oil, making them durable, moisture-resistant, and appropriate for kitchens, bathrooms, offices, restaurants, bars, and retail interiors.
What is the best wood species for floating shelves?
Walnut and White Oak are the most popular choices for their strength, stability, and modern aesthetic. Maple, Cherry, Mahogany, and Red Oak also work well depending on the design. Knotty Alder is great for rustic styles at a more accessible price point.

How thick should floating shelves be for strength and stability?
For most applications, 1.5 inches is ideal. Thicker shelves (1.75–2 inches) offer a more substantial look and higher weight capacity. Thin shelves under 1¼" are not recommended for heavy-duty floating installation.
What’s the difference between live edge shelves and straight edge shelves?
Live edge shelves maintain the natural contour of the tree, offering an organic, rustic look. Straight edge shelves have a clean, modern profile with optional bevels or roundovers. Both styles can be made with hidden brackets.
Do you ship hardwood shelves nationwide?
Yes — we ship nationwide. Smaller shelves ship parcel, while longer or thicker shelves ship freight. All shelves are packaged securely for safe transport.
Can you build matching shelves, countertops, and tabletops?
Yes — many customers order matching floating shelves, countertops, and tabletops using the same species and finish for a coordinated aesthetic.
How are floating shelves installed on drywall, studs, or masonry?
For best support, brackets should be fastened directly into studs. For masonry or concrete, use proper anchors. Drywall-only installation is not recommended for heavy loads. We provide bracket sizing and stud-mount guidelines to simplify installation.
