Edge Routing by Installation Type

Edge profiles are applied only to visible surfaces. Freestanding pieces receive routing on all exposed edges, while wall-mounted and corner installations are selectively routed to ensure a clean fit and intentional design.

Diagram showing routed edge profiles based on installation type: a freestanding tabletop or countertop with all edges routed, a wall-mounted shelf with three exposed edges routed, and a corner-mounted surface with two exposed edges routed.
Edge routing is applied only to visible sides—freestanding surfaces receive all edges routed, wall-mounted shelves are routed on three sides, and corner installations feature routing on the two exposed edges for a clean, precise fit.

How About Live Edge?

Live edge pieces preserve the natural contour of the wood and are treated as a design feature rather than a routed profile. Live edge is applied only to the exposed sides of a piece, while edges that meet walls or corners are left straight to ensure a precise, seamless installation.

All of our products are available with either routed edge profiles or live edge detailing. Routed profiles offer clean, machined lines across a range of modern to traditional styles, while live edge preserves the natural shape of the wood for a more organic, one-of-a-kind look. Both options are crafted from solid hardwood and applied based on the exposed edges of your installation.

Edge Profiles FAQ

These FAQs answer common questions about edge profiles, helping clarify design intent, comfort, and installation details so you can choose the right option with confidence.

Are edge profiles routed on all sides?

Edge profiles are routed on all exposed sides. For freestanding pieces such as tabletops and countertops, profiles are typically applied to all four edges.

For wall-mounted pieces like shelves, the edge profile is routed on the three visible sides, while the wall-side edge is left square for a clean, tight installation.

Is the squared edge sharp?

No. While the squared edge is designed to maintain a clean, crisp, modern appearance, it is subtly eased during finishing. This light easing removes sharpness without rounding the profile, preserving the architectural look while making the edge comfortable to the touch.

Do edge profiles change how the surface feels?

They do. Sharper profiles feel crisp and modern, while rounded or eased edges feel softer to the touch and more forgiving in daily use.

Are some edge profiles better for high-traffic or commercial use?

Yes. Simpler profiles such as squared, chamfered, and small radius rounds are typically more durable and easier to maintain in high-use environments like restaurants and commercial spaces.

Are all edge profiles available on countertops, tabletops, and shelves?

Most profiles are available across all product types, but some decorative or larger profiles may have thickness requirements. If a profile isn’t compatible with a specific product, it will be noted on the product page.

Do edge profiles work with live edge products?

No. Live edge pieces retain the natural shape of the tree and do not use machined edge profiles. Live edge options are treated as a separate design choice.

Are edges applied or glued on?

No. All edge profiles are machined directly into solid hardwood. There are no veneers, applied strips, or engineered edging.
