Case Study: Flower Boxes for a Brooklyn School Garden

A Garden Glow-Up for PS 282 – Built with Love (and Lumber)

We had a blast this week teaming up with our friends at Bestcase.co for a feel-good project in the heart of Brooklyn. Together, we built and donated ten brand-new 8-foot by 4-foot flower boxes to PS 282 in Park Slope—and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

🛠️ When Charles Called, We Were In

When Charles from Bestcase approached us with the idea of giving the school garden at PS 282 a fresh start, we couldn’t turn it down. It was exactly the kind of project we love—community-driven, hands-on, and full of purpose.

The school’s original flower boxes were in rough shape, so we got to work building oversized replacements using pressure-treated lumber designed to stand up to New York weather (and elementary school energy). Now, PS 282 has a sturdy, fresh set of planters ready for planting, learning, and growing.

💚 Building for Something Bigger

At Hardtwood, we spend a lot of our time crafting tabletops, shelving, and countertops—but sometimes the most rewarding builds are the ones that don’t go to a showroom or a fancy kitchen. These boxes are going to help spark curiosity, creativity, and outdoor time for kids right here in our own city.

🤝 Powered by Local Partnerships

Big thanks to Charles and the team at Bestcase.co for looping us in. This was a true team effort, and it’s proof that when local businesses team up, amazing things happen.
